Ev sahipliğini yaptığı Hockenheim pistinde Ferrari pilotu Fernando Alonso'nun 0.002 sn önünde ilk sıraya yerleşen Vettel, bu sezonki 6. pole pozisyonunu aldı.
Ferrari'nin Brezilyalı pilotu Felipe Massa 3. olurken Red Bull Racing'in olay adamı Avustralyalı pilot Mark Webber 4. sırada yer aldı.
Sıralama turlarının ilk seansında Force India pilotu Vitantonio Liuzzi kazası sebebiyle seansın durmasına sebep oldu.
